How to Create a Sustainable Thanksgiving Feast
By: Amy Arani
You know (and we know) the feeling of sitting at your desk scrolling through hundreds of Airbnbs, dreaming of your next adventure. Traveling is one of the best things you can do for your life and general well being. And of course we’re all for a big trip whenever we can take one, but there’s something so special about a low-key weekend getaway when you need a quick refresher. It’s also easy to get caught up in overpacking whenever you go away. Sure, you might end up dancing the night away at an unexpected salsa club, but you probably don’t need four different dress options for it.
We’ve put together a minimalist packing list for your next weekend adventure, so you can spend less time packing and lugging around a heavy suitcase, and more time living in the moment. Make adjustments depending on where you’re going and when, but this is a good place to start.
In terms of sustainable living, jeans are meant to be worn at least four or five times before you have to wash them. So one pair for the weekend will be more than enough. Take your favorite comfortable pair, like these Raleigh Denim high-waisted skinny jeans, so you can wear them even if you’re in for a full day of serious exploring.
A simple tee is a must-have in your suitcase. This striped Lacausa T-shirt will be so comfortable no matter what kind of trip you’re taking, and it'll be easy to dress up if the moment presents itself. Just slip on some heels and a button-down top for a look that’s effortlessly chic.
This Tradlands button-down top is our favorite layering piece. You can wear it over a T-shirt or you can also wear it tied around your waist with a dress. Or try it tucked into jeans for a preppy, put-together style. If you layer it, you’ll be able to get at least two wears on your weekend away.
If you have plans for a nice dinner out or any other event where you have to dress up, you’ll want to pack another dress as well. But for a versatile option that takes up minimal space, this Rove striped mini dress is your answer. You can wear it with sneakers and a button-down top for a day walking around museums. Then, add a belt and slip on some heels for a night out.
The right shoes are probably the most important thing that you’ll pack for your weekend away. Keep comfort at the forefront of your decision, so you won’t have to say no to anything that comes your way. You can absolutely get away with wearing only these PONS slingback sandals the entire time you’re gone to make sure you're really sticking with that minimalist packing. But if you'll want to dress up more, bring a pair of wedge sandals to instantly take any outfit to the right place.
When it comes to dressing up an outfit quickly, statement earrings are about as easy as it gets. We love how much a good pair of earrings makes even the messiest bun look like you planned it weeks in advance. And these Dear Survivor sustainable earrings are made from recycled leather, so they'll be lightweight enough to wear all weekend.
We hope you have the best time on your minimalist weekend getaway! If you have other favorite pieces that you always bring with you, comment below and let us know. Otherwise, check back with us for more tips for sustainable living and eco-friendly shopping!
